Castle – Countdown, or What is a terrorist?

To be perfectly honest and frank, I don’t watch Castle. Fans of Firefly, generally the ones who call themselves Browncoats, say to watch the show to support the career of Nathan Fillion. I don’t watch movies or shows because of the actors involved. In fact, while I enjoyed Fillion in Serenity, Doctor Horrible, and Slither, I cannot say I care for the actual Firefly series or Castle. The only reason I am remotely familiar with it is because my fiancee is pretty crazy about it. We have it on every Monday evening at its late evening hour of 10 p.m., and I generally just stick around in the living room.

Then there was last night’s episode, which can be viewed here on Hulu. It was the latter episode of a two-parter featuring Heroes‘ Adrian Pasdar. The elements of the first episode didn’t sink in for me while watching it, but this second episode really started to stand out…around the 30 minute mark. They caught the culprit and began interrogating him in order to locate a bomb. The man was positive that he would go free as a true American patriot while the public at large would unify against some arbitrary terrorist. Pasdar’s character told him that what he was doing was not the work of a patriot but a traitor. This notion of false patriotism really sunk in for me. Read the rest of this entry
