The Order of Star Wars
The “Machete Order” of Star Wars recently became an internet sensation, and I almost missed it. Not that it would have mattered much. I thought up the same order a couple of years ago and for mostly the same reasons: re-ordering the films centers the saga around Luke while also highlighting the importance of Darth Vader’s choices. Remember, by Return of the Jedi Vader serves as a warning of what Luke could become. Literally in the center of the context that is the original Star Wars trilogy, the prequel trilogy has a meaning that lifts it beyond our cynical view of its being a cash grab. BREAKING: Miss USA Has Seen Star Wars – Topless Robot
BREAKING: Miss USA Has Seen Star Wars – Topless Robot.
The at the link doesn’t really say anything about Miss USA’s being a Star Wars geek. She answers a few questions quite quickly and nicely. I enjoy her for that. And I’m surprisingly not interested in trying to take away her supposed geek cred. We know how I feel about labels like that anyway.
No, the link shows the truly insipid nature of morning talk shows. There is so much in the world to discuss, but let’s devote nearly five minutes to “prove” that our new Miss USA is a geek. This is blatant advertising to the geek market so that they may appreciate her and pay attention to her. This may also be part of a campaign to show that this young lady is not the same party girl as last year’s Miss USA. (Note: In my opinion, Rima Fakih is far more attractive and has a distinctive look. I know little about this Miss USA, but I wouldn’t be able to pick her out of a herd of redheads.) But moreover, this shows that morning shows are a wasted opportunity for discussion – and thus wasted time on television.
Sith girl exposes fault of Star Wars films
I’m not late to the party in sharing the Sith girl clip that was popularized weeks ago. It was only recently that the reality of the young girl’s turn to the Dark Side really became clear to me. Over the course of six movies, a holiday special, 2 animated series covering the same span of time, and four-hundred (and counting) video games…the series has absolutely failed to present the Dark Side as deplorable and vile.
First, watch the video. The girl does what most adult fans would do. Maybe she’s ahead of the game as far as kids are concerned?

Star Wars: The Old Republic – the MMO to make you consider but still not buy an MMO
Forget an intro. You just want to see moving pictures.
This is clearly not game play footage, or else there would be something substantial to talk about game-wise. Instead, what we get is a look at the world established in Star Wars 3,000 years before The Phantom Menace. This is a world we all want to see, especially after this video. Armies of Jedi fighting with armies of Sith. That is beyond amazing.
It is very doubtful that the game will live up to the expectations provided by this video clip. The fighting will not be nearly as entertaining to watch, and the army fights will be more like this:
Yeah, I’m saying you’ll get stuck with the dumb guy who ruins everything for which you had been working. All it takes is one super social reject to make the Sith appear far from badass.
What is really disappointing about this game is that its being an MMO means that there will be no actual story. Sure, there will be events going on in the background, but there is no story for you to unravel. There are just things happening. The players get to exist in the world, but that’s about as far as it goes.
But the point of this game is to make up for the abysmal Star Wars Online. Whereas in that game only a random few players were ever chosen to be Jedi, this game makes sure that everyone can be a Jedi or Sith. I’m not sure if that’s such a good thing. After all, if everyone is special, no one is. (Thank you, Syndrome.) I believe that the same line of reasoning was used to persuade George Lucas to cut down on the number of laser swords after the first draft of Star Wars was written (which I believe was originally called Everyone Has Laser Swords: This is the Coolest Thing Ever, Don’t You Think?). That and matters concerning the effects budget, of course.
