Midnight News: Gatchaman movie

One thing that bothers me about moving back to Michigan is the fact that there are so many more big conventions in California. I just missed Anime Expo, which I had attended the two previous years and greatly enjoyed. I really wanted to catch the screening of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, but I guess I’ll have to settle for one of the DVD releases (don’t get me started, especially since I already own the series on both VHS and DVD, not to mention the Director’s Cut re-releases of the final two DVDs, and the two original movies). But what really irks me now? The trailer for Gatchaman!

Looks pretty rough right now, but it’s undoubtedly the true G-Force. What’s of interesting note is that the “lone warrior” shown is Joe, and later we see him following the team in a pair of handcuffs. I have a feeling that even if the story is dumb, the movie is definitely going to be worth watching.

Midnight News: Hot blooded to replace racism in Japanese Revenge of the Fallen dub

I understand that Michael Bay and the producers supposedly intended for the twins to be caricatures of wiggers, but how it played out completely missed the mark. Robots have no inherent race, so it’s hard for them to be white but act horribly black. Instead, they are robots who act horribly black. That’s a bad thing.

Great news! The horribly racist characters Skids and Mudflap in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be voiced by Seki Domon's fist glows red with the power to smash racism Kamina might be able to do the impossible if he makes Mudflap the least bit bearable - might even be worth it to actually watch the Japanese dub of the movieTomokazu and Konishi Katsuyuki respectively in the Japanese dub. For the anime fans out there, those are the actors who played Domon Kasshu in Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Kamina in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, two of the most righteous  and hot blooded characters to ever exist in anime. If the dub is done right, expect lots of yelling and the two characters to actually be likeable.

(Thanks to Japanator for the news.)

Midnight News: Japan’s 1:1 scale Gundam is the greatest creation ever

Gonna fly away, gonna fly away, gonna fly away GUNDAMU!!!

I don’t care that this is some temporary creation simply for the latest anniversary of the Japanese equivalent to Star Wars – this Gundam needs to stand tall for years to come. As far as I’m concerned, the Japanese need one single artifact to rival the Statue of Liberty. The RX-78-2 could be the must-see tourist attraction for the next generation.

Midnight News: T-Bag to play new villain on Heroes

When I read this report online, I screamed, “Yes!” Robert Knepper became one of my favorite aspects of the Fox escape drama called Prison Break. His character, Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell, was completely slimy and disgusting, and Knepper was able to make me feel repulsion for the character. When the character began Know what? You'll understand my feelings toward this guy if you watch the first two seasons and the first half of season 4 or Prison Break. redeeming himself in the final season, Knepper’s chops made me feel like even the lowest of the lows deserves a chance at happiness.

Until the writing got downright horrid.

Knepper will be a great addition to Heroes, a series that needs actually absence since the wake left by the departures of Quinto, Bell, Eccleston, and McDowell. Most of them were short-lived on the series, but they really stood out amongst the mostly wooden main cast. If the villain played by Knepper taps into any little bit of T-Bag, Season 4 might just be awesome enough to keep me going.

Additionally, I heard that Ray Park will be cast as a character in the carnival arc of the next season. Expect him to do something cool with weapons and maybe a few stunts. Also expect message boards to tease about the fact that Kring’s plagiarism of X-Men has gotten so bad that he’s now stealing its actors.

Although casting Patrick Stewart in any role on the show would be fantastic and work on so many levels. The level of awesomeness could not be most people’s television sets or computer monitors. It would likely break us all.

Midnight News: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom to be released in the US

I decided to tag this “Midnight News” just in case I ever want to post something that I’m sure no one else will want to read. So, look for that label if you want to trim the fat of your usual online blog reading.Ryu's wearing red and white and definitely patriotic for his home country, but the inclusion of blue on Ken the Eagle makes his loyalty questionable

In news that was spoiled weeks before the show, Capcom revealed that its latest fighting game, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, would be released in the US with enhancements over its Japanese counterpart. Namely, 20 new mini-games, online play (without friend codes), and five new characters.

That last point is great but questionable considering why the release was held-up in the first place. Tatsunoko may be one company holding the rights to all of its characters in Japan, but in America those rights are spread quite thinly amongst American distributors. The idea of pulling in more characters suggests that more distributors will have to be contacted – unless the new characters are coming from already licensed series or Capcom. I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe the Condor were pulled from Gatchaman for the game or the Zero from the greater Mega Man series of games. But maybe they’ll surprise us and let us use Speed Racer and Racer X. Hell, Pops Racer would be an even better fit for the game! (Don’t get me started on how I would kill to have Tekkaman Blade and Takkaman Evil present…)

I’m excited, despite my purposely refraining from buying games lately. This is something worth getting due to the goofy fun nature of it. Plus, how often do you get the opportunity to use Casshern to beat the holy hell out of robotic housekeeper Roll from the original Mega Man series?
