Can I be perfectly honest here? I loathe PETA. I do not loathe their ultimate goal, which would be the ethical treatment of animals, but I hate how they go about everything. To discourage the mistreatment of tanukis, they are taking jabs at Mario. Because Mario encourages kids to skin animals and wear their fur. If there’s anything kids pick up from Mario, it’s animal abuse.
PETA, haven’t you learned that extremism does more to hurt your cause than help it? I want to support your cause, but I simply can’t when you’re being like this. Stop. Just stop.

If you live on the theory that any press is good press, I don’t see this as a bad move. If you look at it from the point of view that you are more likely to turn people off than gain support, terrible decision. To make the leap of Mario in the Tanooki suit to skinning animals is ridiculous.
At least be consistent and also extend the logic to frog abuse. And while their at it, shouldn’t they have been coming to the defense of turtles a long time ago? At least that makes logical sense (playing that game, jumping on turtles).
You’re absolutely right that no press is bad press. They are succeeding like no other, and the longevity of the organization says a lot. But at the same time I just think that the cause should be the focus of the group, and doing anything to make themselves look ridiculous draws away from their intent. So I guess my real question is are they trying to draw attention to their positive intentions or are they simply drawing attention to themselves?
